HVCB Brings Perfect Moments in the Hawaiian Islands to Chicago, Seattle

The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB), HTA’s marketing contractor for North America, turned its attention to Seattle and Chicago throughout September and October, typically blustery months, targeting the cities’ avid travelers and residents with various consumer events and blitzes aimed at increasing visitor arrivals to Hawaii. HVCB’s campaign, a part of ongoing marketing efforts in North America, focused on Hawaii’s culture, people and history, and the many experiences visitors can have while vacationing only in Hawaii.

In Seattle, Seattle Met magazine partnered with HVCB on a month-long promotion where art students created a Hawaii-inspired piece around the theme “Picture Perfect Moments in Hawaii.”  The public had the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece on the Seattle Met webpage. Hapalaka Music and HVCB teamed up to present two concerts featuring legendary slack key guitar masters, taking audiences on a tropical escape to the Hawaiian Islands through the beautiful sounds of these extraordinary performers.

While in Chicago, HVCB focused on the Chicago Botanic Gardens, offering a multitude of activities that included a Hawaii Treats sampling station, Poi/Paiai Pounding demonstration station; Garden Chef Series chef demonstrations, and Hawaii-themed seminars. Residents also had the opportunity to “Discover Kauai at American Girl Place” and learn about the endangered Hawaiian monk seal through the Kauai Monk Seal Watch Program, while enjoying hula lessons and live Hawaiian music from Kauai entertainers. The island was the inspiration behind American Girl's 2011 Girl of the Year, Kanani Akina. HVCB will continue to bring the warmth and aloha spirit of Hawaii to the Windy City all month long with events showcasing the unique music, dance, flavors, history and culture of Hawaii.

The campaigns included a heavy TV advertising presence on major national television outlets including USA, AMC, BRAVO, MSNBC and CNN.
