Increases in Airlift for Second Half of 2011
Our state has seen a welcomed increase in visitor arrivals and spending, and looks forward to greeting even more visitors through the second half of the year.
In June, United Airlines resumed flights from Los Angeles to Hilo and added once-weekly nonstop service from Hilo to San Francisco. The visitor industry can also look forward to the establishment of a new route in the fall as Asiana Airlines begins direct service from Incheon, South Korea to Honolulu.
China is the fastest growing market in Hawaii’s visitor industry since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2007. China Eastern Airlines is currently working with the Hawaii Department of Transportation to begin the first regularly scheduled nonstop route on Aug. 9, 2011.
The HTA anticipates these additional flights and increased airlift to contribute to a strong second half of the year for Hawaii’s visitor industry and contribute to job growth in our local economy.
