Tour Drive and Guide Certification Course

The HTA is proud to support programs that help support our visitor industry workforce stay current and up-to-date. Tourism is the biggest generator of jobs among the major economic sectors in Hawai‘i, with more than 150,000 people who make up the visitor industry workforce, constituting 17.9 percent of total employment for the state.

As part of its workforce development initiative, the HTA recognizes that the hospitality and spirit of aloha of visitor industry professionals play an integral role in creating a memorable visitor experience, and therefore sponsors programs that help visitor industry professionals improve their products and services. One such program is the Kapi'olani Community College Continuing Education’s Hawaii State Tour Driver and Guide Certification Course.

The course offers industry professionals the opportunity to hone their customer service skills by learning to deliver effective, interactive and entertaining tours, while practicing the art of gracious hospitality with aloha. As visitors often rely on their guides as sources of information and knowledge, participants will have an opportunity to enhance their understanding of Hawaii’s history, culture and language.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an official State of Hawaii certification and designation as a visitor industry professional. For more information contact Palakiko Yagodich at fyagodich@hawaii.edu, or call 808-734-9346.

DIACRITICALS

HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the use of diacritical markings of the (modern) Hawaiian language including the `okina [`] or glottal stop and the kahakō [ō] or macron (e.g., in place names of Hawai`i such as Lāna'i). However, you may notice these diacritical markings have been omitted throughout the website to ensure the best online experience for our visitors. HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the importance of using these markings to preserve the language and culture of Hawaii and respectfully uses them in all communications beyond the online platform.
