HTA Welcomes Fred Atkins to its Board of Directors

The HTA is pleased to welcome a new member of its board of directors, Fred Atkins, who will be representing the island of Kauai. Atkins’ appointment was effective as of Oct. 8, 2014 and attended his first board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014.

“Fred’s appointment to the board of directors will be a tremendous addition to the HTA and Hawaii’s tourism economy,” said Aaron Sala, HTA board chair. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise of our visitor industry and the island of Kauai. We look forward to welcoming him, as the HTA looks to continue the momentum of one of the largest economic drivers for the state.”

Atkins brings more than 30 years of experience in Hawaii’s visitor industry, working at the Kauai Surf Resort and establishing Kauai Kilohana Partners, which operates Kilohana Plantation, a popular visitor attraction that shares Kauai’s plantation history. He has also served on boards for both the Kauai Visitors Bureau and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.

“This is an exciting time for our visitor industry and we know that Fred will help us guide the HTA as we begin a new chapter at the tourism authority,” added Sala.

DIACRITICALS

HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the use of diacritical markings of the (modern) Hawaiian language including the `okina [`] or glottal stop and the kahakō [ō] or macron (e.g., in place names of Hawai`i such as Lāna'i). However, you may notice these diacritical markings have been omitted throughout the website to ensure the best online experience for our visitors. HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the importance of using these markings to preserve the language and culture of Hawaii and respectfully uses them in all communications beyond the online platform.
