LPGA Returns to the Hawaiian Islands

After a three year hiatus, the LPGA returned to the Hawaiian Islands in 2012 with the new LPGA Lotte Championship presented by J Golf, the LPGA’s television rights holder in Korea. The event will commence this weekend on Sunday, April 14 and continue through Saturday, April 20 at the Ko Olina Golf Club course. The pro-round will be from April 17-20 and include 144 female golf professionals who will compete for the $1.7 million purse, including international golfers like Ai Miyazato (last year’s winner), Hyo-Joo Kim, Na Yeon Choi, Yani Tseng, Stacey Lewis and Hawaii’s own Michelle Wie.

“The HTA’s partnership with the LPGA creates new opportunities for business development and exposure for the Hawaiian Islands,” said Mike Story, HTA tourism brand and sports manager. “Having the LPGA’s top female golfers from our key markets in Asia and North America attend this tournament helps to diversify our market and enhances our presence as a globally recognized sports destination.”

The tournament will be televised on the Golf Channel and its international affiliates, reaching millions households worldwide. Tickets to the event are available at the tournament. For more information, click here

DIACRITICALS

HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the use of diacritical markings of the (modern) Hawaiian language including the `okina [`] or glottal stop and the kahakō [ō] or macron (e.g., in place names of Hawai`i such as Lāna'i). However, you may notice these diacritical markings have been omitted throughout the website to ensure the best online experience for our visitors. HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the importance of using these markings to preserve the language and culture of Hawaii and respectfully uses them in all communications beyond the online platform.
