Track the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage

The HTA is proud to support the Polynesian Voyaging Society, which perpetuates and shares the Hawaiian tradition of navigation, values of sustainability, shares the aloha and enhances Hawaii’s connection and relationship with those abroad.

With the Hokulea and Hikianalia in New Zealand through next month, HTO organized a VIP event at the New Zealand Maritime Museum on March 18 to highlight both canoe, their crews and their Worldwide Voyage. The event also included entertainment by Halau Hula o Kalaaulani o Puuanahulu from Hawaii Island who traveled to New Zealand for the recent Pasifika Festival. Guests included the U.S. Consul General and leading wholesale and retail chain partners from Auckland.

Its Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage commenced in 2013 and will mark the first time that the Hokulea will sail beyond the Pacific Ocean. Covering approximately 47,000 nautical miles, 85 ports and 26 countries over five years, the Voyage promotes the importance of caring for the earth – malama honua – while connecting people from different backgrounds and professions, around the world.

DIACRITICALS

HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the use of diacritical markings of the (modern) Hawaiian language including the `okina [`] or glottal stop and the kahakō [ō] or macron (e.g., in place names of Hawai`i such as Lāna'i). However, you may notice these diacritical markings have been omitted throughout the website to ensure the best online experience for our visitors. HawaiiTourismAuthority.org recognizes the importance of using these markings to preserve the language and culture of Hawaii and respectfully uses them in all communications beyond the online platform.
